MySpace sued over security negligence
Posted On 09/23/2008 08:37:18 by jamiekid
Lawyers for the families of five American teenagers have filed multi-million dollar lawsuits against social networking website MySpace and its parent company News Corp after the girls were sexually abused by men that they allege they met through the website. The lawsuits claim negligence, recklessness, fraud and negligent misrepresentation The plaintiffs, whose identities are protected, comprise: a 15-year-old Pennsylvania girl who was kidnapped and sexually assaulted - a man is awaiting trial on 12 charges of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor; a 15-year-old Texas girl who was lured to a meeting, drugged and assaulted - a man later pled guilty to sexual assault after the girl was found by the FBI and is serving a 10-year sentence in a Texas penitentiary; a 14-year-old New York girl who was lured to a meeting severely force-fed with alcohol and illicit drugs forced and then sexually assaulted by two men - one awaits trial while the other pleaded guilty and has been imprisoned; and two South Carolina sisters, one 14 years old and the other 15, who were lured to a meeting, force-fed alcohol and illicit drugs, and sexually assaulted and raped by two men - both have been arrested and are awaiting criminal prosecution In April last year the site appointed a former prosecutor in the US Justice Department's internet child exploitation unit, Hemanshu Nigam, as its chief security officer and in December it said that it would soon be implementing new controls designed to identify and block convicted sex offenders. MySpace under legal fire over assault The mother of a 14-year-old Texas girl is suing MySpace for $30mn after the girl was assaulted by a man she met through the popular social networking website. The lawsuit claims that the site does not require users to verify their age and says that the security measures aimed at preventing strangers from contacting users younger than 16 are 'utterly ineffective' Just three months ago MySpace was forced to defend its security practices after two man were arrested in the US to face charges of sexually abusing children they contacted through the site.

All of u r completly right 2 say that guys like this should b locked up 4 life, it is the reason y i don't really fully trust poeple i meet on the internet and feel reluctant to meet them.

But admin, if parents monitored evrything their children go on, they will have no privacy wat so ever. I was watching this programme called the worlds strictest parents, and they watched their children like hawks, they knew all their passwords, for myspace, msn etc, and checked their profiles and history evryday. That is crazy and must be hard, especially 4 young confused gay kids, who hav got no 1 else 2 talk 2 and use these sites just 2 talk someone else who's going through the same thing,so they don't feel so alone.

So wat i' tryin 2 say is ur right parents should take more responsibility, but it could also damage the kid if their parents find out that they gay through theses sites or they are banned from accessing them and therefore feel more alone.

you are totally right Jamie. These people should be castrated. What possible pleasure is their in sex with a child? I think it is vile.

These people are just totally evil control freaks who enjoy having 'power' over someone through promoting fear while getting their filthy kicks abusing someone mentally and physically.

daz and mysteryg

I totaly agree with you, I dont know if anyone here has seen that u.s series that is now on sky, ( to catch a preditor) ill upload some clips from it, the cops set up fake users online, pretending to be 12 to 13 year old boys and girls, they meet perves on sites, arrange a meet and the perve is caught on cam, when he trys to do a runner he is nabed by the waiting cops outside,
now for the sick part, some of these peados are teachers ect and even a preacher was nabbed,
in my opinion any sick shit who wants sex with a child, should be locked up for life, ( after being castrated with a blunt knife ) lol

I agree with admin, parents should take more interest in their kids internet activities. BUT, perverts will find ways to abuse kids no matter what.

I have a 6 year old son and he never gets on the computer unless i am in the room to monitor what sites he goes on. Thankfully his limit is CBBC or WWE wrestling!

It's like all these stories in the papers about perverts 'forcing' teen girls to get their tits out on camera...First of all, why don't they say no, delete and block. Secondly, where are the parents when their 13 year old daughter is tit flashing on MSN?

The mind boggles!
