The sky was a deep burnt orange, as the sun set over the calm, glass like sea of the Gulf of Thailand. My stay in Cambodia was interesting to say the least! It's one of the poorest countries in the world, having been destroyed in wars, by the Americans, the Khmer Rouge and the Vietnamese. In 1979 they literally had to start again with absolutely nothing. The French and the above regimes have left the Cambodian people with a sense of fear and they are very unsure of themselves, even paranoid. One of the fabulous things about Thailand is its nature. I visited Kho Chang, (which means Elephant Island), last week for a few days and was bowled over by the stunning scenery!
